Elizabeth Paige Smith Films, shot on digital and presented as a visual poem and dream experience
I shoot intuitively, nothing is written, I start with a feeling, it is a spontaneous approach. I shoot mostly hand-held, in natural environments, under existing authentic circumstances with natural light, no special effects, nothing superficial. With this approach I allow my intuition to direct the scene.
In the editing process, I feel my way connecting sequences into a meditative visual current, constructing a visual narrative structure by creating a flow between images and into a state of momentous equilibrium. With regard to aesthetics, they are an interpretive product to communicate the intended sensory effect.
My subjects are authentic characters responding to my direction. I have a manner of intimate-interplay between myself/camera and my subject, the environment, and the sun.
The environment plays an intricate role in my work, a main character, the provocateur, setting up unexpected situations with which often escorts us to a breaking point. I document nature’s dominating effects on my subjects who are responsive and reactionary.
