This selection of works serves to communicate my artistic practice. My approach is to dissolve the rigid boundaries between the industrial, conceptual, and the organic. The core tension of the work resides in the critical synthesis of two visual registers: the absolute clarity of geometry and the untamed presence of raw, organic form. This is not a stylistic choice or attempt at contradiction, but a foundational, generative dialogue designed to activate themes of time, control, and human intervention.

Smith's artistic method is fundamentally defined by this synthesis. Rooted in a childhood textural fixation developed on the Cayman Islands' jagged ironshore, this dialogue between order and ephemerality drives the artist's unique approach to material.

As a Venice Beach, California-based artist, Smith’s practice is in direct conversation with the Light and Space movement of the 1960s. This lineage is evident in the use of industrial materials, such as clear acrylic and powder pigments (as in the Untamed series), which investigate light, volume, and perception, utilizing processes of controlled chance derived from west coast industry and surf culture's material innovations.

By placing primal, excavated matter (like the crystallized rock) into geometric structures, the work consistently highlights the transient nature of existence against the enduring forces of architecture and material mass. This approach articulates a raw tension between modern human femininity and the forces of nature, a core conceptual engine that informs the powerful materiality and gestural expression of the NAKED + FUCKING FREE series.
